Just as I was saying in a previous article (probably if I think about it, I said it in all of them), the world of gaming oriented peripherals knows a lot of competition. A few years ago there were really only a handful of proper peripheral manufacturers, yet as time passed, we’ve been attacked from all sides by more. Not that it’s a bad thing, don’t get me wrong, yet this makes choosing so much harder. This time, let’s look a little at Saitek’s Cyborg lineup of gaming peripherals!
A few years ago, in 2007, Mad Catz purchased Saitek and as time has it, the company set up a gaming oriented division. That’s how we’ve gotten to enjoy the products offered to us by the fine people at Cyborg. Their products always managed to make an impression thanks to their radical designs as well as their outlandish performance. So what is the company offering these days?
Saitek Cyborg gaming mice
The manufacturer’s list of gaming mice is pretty long considering that we are talking about top-of-the-line models which offer excellent performance and customization options.
The first one in our lineup is the Cyborg R.A.T. 3 gaming mouse, which comes in with a 3200dpi gaming grade laser sensor, 4 custom DPI settings, 3 programmable buttons, 3 Cyborg Modes which allow you to toggle between three R.A.T. modes. You can change your DPI sensitivity, generate custom profiles for each game and all to reach a level of comfort unseen before in a gaming mouse.
Our second contestant in this category is the Cyborg R.A.T. 5 gaming mouse. This beast comes in with the option to adjust its length in order to fit your hand better depending on your grip type. There’s also a custom weight system which can help add weight to your mouse, to fit your needs. The R.A.T. 5 also comes with the precision aim mode, which slows down your mouse movement when you use the precision aim button, to make sure you hit your target 100 per cent of the time!
Cyborg’s R.A.T. 7 really steps up its game, offering 3 interchangeable pinkie and palm rests, a custom weight system, precision aim mode, a 5600dpi laser sensor, 4 custom DPI settings, 5 programmable buttons, 3 Cyborg modes and just like with the R.A.T. 5 you can adjust its length to fit your hand better. It would almost be rude to limit ourselves this much, but we still have another Cyborg gaming mouse to go!
The company’s last product for the gaming mice section is the previously overviewed, Cybor R.A.T. 9 gaming mouse. This beast comes in with a 2.4GHz zero latency wireless technology, 2 custom built lithium-ion battery cells, interchangeable pinkie grips and palm rests (3 each), custom weight system, precision aim mode, 5600dpi laser sensor, 4 custom DPI settings, 5 programmable buttons, 3 Cyborg modes, metal chassis and much more. Check out our previous article for the full rundown!
Saitek Cyborg gaming keyboards
Cyborg doesn’t work only on developing cutting edge gaming mice but has also developed a couple of gaming oriented keyboards. These maintain the design ideals of the company by showing off strong shapes which remind us of the company’s logo.
The Cyborg V.5 gaming keyboard comes in with backlight illumination which illuminates the entire keyboard in a bright red. The keys themselves are laser etched and allow the light to pass through them, making this baby look menacing at any rate. There’s also anti-ghosting set up for the key gaming area to ensure that simultaneous key presses are registered. The media controls are located above the number pad as to not interfere with your gaming.
Cyborg’s V.7 comes in with really extreme design lines. The gaming keyboard features multi-color backlighting, a touch-sensitive, backlit dashboard control panel which allows the user to configure lightning, media as well as volume controls. The WASD, cursor, Cyborg and the NumPad keys can be lit independently from the rest of the setup.
When entering Cyborg Mode, the Windows keys are disabled and the brightness is adjusted on the fly. You also get 12 programmable keys, metal-plated key caps in the gaming areas as well as an adjustable wrist rest and gold plated connectors for your USB and audio setup.
Gaming surfaces
Cyborg not only offers up gaming mice but they also offer gaming surfaces for them. You have a total of 3 to choose from, the Cyborg V.3 gaming surface, Cyborg V.5 gaming surface and the Cyborg Glide 7 gaming surface.
The Cyborg V.3 gaming surface comes with high density silicone materials to give you great feedback while the silicone material helps the pad stick to your desk. The gaming surface measures in at 11.5 x 15.5 inches while the texture is very smooth and suiting for both laser and optical mice.
Cyborg’s V.5 gaming surface comes with a metal plate construction, in order to keep your pad flat at all times. The gaming surface comes with two sides, one of them offering precision while the other is aimed at speed. The low friction allows for smooth movements while the silicone rubber feet are also here to keep the setup in its place.
The biggest of the bunch is the Cyborg Glide 7 gaming surface, which measures in at 19.7 x 15.7 inches (that’s 500 x 400 mm). The material used for the top of the surface is a synthetic fabric which boots accuracy while smoothening out the movement of your mouse over it. The 6mm foam rubber backing adds to comfort.
Saitek Cyborg flight sticks and gamepads
The manufacturer is also offering up flight sticks to help you own up the skies. Cyborg offers suck controllers for PC, Xbox 360 and the PS3 while their Cyborg V.5 rumble pad is designed for the PC and Xbox 360. If you want to fly and shoot down some planes (in a safe gaming environment of course) make sure to give these products a good look as well.
Final thoughts
There are just a handful of companies which manage to really impress not only with performance but with style as well. In a world in which every mouse looks the same and every keyboard has not style and seems to just sit on your desk, Cyborg brings a ray of hope. Their designs, although not to everyone’s taste, manage to impress each time.
You’ll always enjoy a good discussion with anyone who asks “why are there screws hanging from your mouse”. Seriously now folks, how many times did you get asked that question? The best thing about the company is that they are here to offer something to each and every one of us, so if you are interested in their products, you can check their webpage out HERE and if you want to give them a try, you can purchase any product from them directly.
Make sure to grab your RATs and your Cyborgs because gaming is coming you! Stay tuned for more!
