No matter what keyboard you plan on writing your comment on, no matter what headphones you listen to your favorite track on and no matter what mouse aims for the head of your opponent, you have to admit that Logitech knows what they are doing in terms or peripherals. The Logitech G35 is here to prove that to us!
Although not exactly such a big name in the game of audio devices, the Logitech G35 is entering the market with the company’s extended experience in the field. This shows in every little design line, in every feature as well as in the overall functionality of this 7.1 gaming headset.
The Logitech G35 is here to make a stand for itself in a market over flooded by cheap headphones, mediocre sound and bad design decisions. However, trying to review any audio device is highly subjective, since we all have different tastes in that regard so make sure to take the following opinions with a grain of salt!
Overview
Logitech’s G35 is the result of Dolby and Logitech deciding to start working together and see what they can come up with. The end result is impressive if nothing else, as the Logitech G35 both look amazing and sound even better.
In terms of features the G35 shines as it comes packed to the brim with a ton of cool functions to help you out in both gaming and multimedia. The 7.1 surround sound is achieved via some tricky software tweaking, but the end result is short of amazing. Thanks to the 3 customizable G-Keys you can keep different profiles for your games, your music and your movies.
The on-ear audio controls of the Logitech G35 also help out a ton in simplifying even such a function as adjusting the volume, since now you don’t have to look for the volume controls on the cable, tab out of your movie/game to adjust it, simply turn a knob on the right ear cup.
Not only that, the Logitech G35 also brings 3 swappable headband pads to make sure that the headset sits comfortably on your head, while the sturdy build makes sure that the Logitech G35 is stable and on your head at all times.
The microphone on the Logitech G35 manages to deliver excellent sound quality for both Skype or Teamspeak calls and again, the on-ear sound controls make it easier to gain access to all the features. Connecting the device to the PC is achieved via a USB connection, so the sound quality won’t depend on your current sound card.
Just like the Logitech G930, the G35 has a microphone mute light, however, this is rather awkwardly placed so you won’t actually see if the microphone is muted or not, but if you turn the microphone up vertically, the G35 automatically mutes it.
In terms of sound quality the Logitech G35 doesn’t disappoint offering excellent sound response in both music and movies. Gaming however seems to be a little hit or miss, which seem rather awkward seeing as we are dealing with a gaming headset here, but then again, this might be very subjective.
This is also most likely caused by the game software part, as some games manage to really take full advantage of the Dolby Headphone system while others simply work better with this turned off. It seems a little bit weird to see that a gaming headphone performs so well in music and movies and games are the ones lacking.
However this shouldn’t scare you away as the sound quality of the Logitech G35 is excellent once you find the right balance, but despite that you shouldn’t think that you’ll be spending hours upon end tweaking it, but rather finding if the game properly uses the Dolby Headphone technology.
The software for the Logitech G35 itself is rather simple and straightforward to use, so you won’t have any issues in getting the full advantage of the headsets audio capabilities and then there’s always the Logitech seal of approval which ensures that you are buying a product with a good lifespan and excellent support.
Pricing
The Logitech G35 surround sound headset isn’t what you would call cheap, since the US Logitech Store sells it for $129.99 while us Europeans will have to cough up 129.99 Euros for it and those in the UK will see themselves 109GBP short.
Amazon is also offering the Logitech G35 for as low as $92.99 and although this might still seem a little bit expensive, quality wise, this is an excellent price/performance ratio.
Final thoughts
The Logitech G35 manages to impress across the board with excellent materials, excellent build quality and of course great sound. It doesn’t matter if gaming is the thing for you or if you prefer to use them to listen to your favorite tracks or watch your favorite movies, the Logitech G35 will always deliver. Although some games might “misbehave” when it comes to using the Dolby Headphone technology, you can turn that on or off via a button on the headset.
So is it worth the money? Personally I am more than willing to recommend it above a lot of the device out there, as the sound quality and build quality are great for this price range. If you are still concerned or not completely convinced that the Logitech G35 delivers see how it fares against some of the top 7.1 gaming headsets out on the market in our little round-up!
